Project Fit
Project must be for an already functioning organization or program with a track record of community leadership.
Applicant organization must be a not-for-profit organization or a government entity.
Project must meet an identified community need, and demonstrate measurable community support.
Project realization must positively impact a broad section of the community.
Project site must be publicly accessible when complete.
Project must be ground-up construction (or include a ground-up construction component).
Project (or a phase of the project) must be of a scale and scope that can be both designed and built during the course of one academic year.
Applicant organization must be in a position to apply for funding by March 1st of the year in which the project would begin (projects begin in August of each year).
Applicant organization must contribute a $5,000 studio sponsorship in support of the design/buildLAB’s project related activities.
Application Process
In order to inventory and evaluate candidate design/build projects, a Letter of Interest from your organization should address the following:
Applicant Information – We need to know about your organization, its purpose, operating history, and leadership. Eligible organizations include not-for-profit organizations or government entities.
Your Project – Tell us about your proposed project, any work that your organization has undertaken in support of the project, any resources, which are available or have been identified, and any impediments that might prevent the project from becoming reality.
Community Need – Does your project meet an identified community, neighborhood, or agency need?
Community Support – Can you demonstrate that there is community support for your project? Are there other organizations or individuals in the community who share your organization’s enthusiasm for your proposed project?
Project Timing – Is your project ready to move forward now? Are you just beginning to think about a project that is several years out?
Capacity – Would your organization be able to operate and maintain the project/facility once built? If not, what are the steps your organization would need to take to be able to operate and maintain the project/facility once built?
